I hear this question often. And my answer to them is always the same: countless. For one thing, Autism is not a disease. It is just being different. Secondly, you can’t ‘cure’ Autism. You can treat a child with autism, but it does not have a cure. Many of the medical miracles are completely fabricated news. Medicines can control the behaviour of your child to a certain extent. For example some medicines can make your child a bit less hyper active. But, that is all.
Then why do we have speech therapy at all? Therapy has its benefits. A child who is able to communicate his or her needs would cry less, and will be more comfortable with his/her surroundings. Moreover, it helps children to learn how to manage a particular situation and to lead independent lives.
Still, for how many days/months should I give therapy?
I say it depends on the type and the severity problem, and the environment that the child grows up in. Based upon my experience, I can say that the progress of a child depends less on the child and more on the effort you put for your kid.
